UPDATE: 3.8.18 Sadie is now in a foster home in MA. She has been in her foster home for about a month now and is doing fantastic. Her foster home takes her to a dog park regularly, as well as having friends' dogs over for visits often, and Sadie loves to interact with them and has had no issues with any of them. However, she does better with males than females. I believe it is safe to say that her issues with dogs were truly from the trauma of losing her puppies and now that some time has passed, she has healed and has returned to her friendly self. Sadie is finally ready for a family of her very own. She is house trained, crate trained (although she doesn't need one), and is learning basic manners/obedience. Sadie does have some anxiety and would do best in a home with someone that spend a lot of time with her. She would not do well left alone for large blocks of time. She is a sensitive girl and really needs lots of reassurance to feel secure. She has lots of nervous energy and definitely needs a fenced yard to run off some of that energy, or an adopter that has LOTS of time and energy to take her for runs. She can not be allowed off leash, because she will bolt and go exploring on her own and will only come back when she is ready. She is definitely still a work in progress, but she is worth the extra effort. She has a lot to offer and just needs the right family to show her how to be the dog she was meant to be.  For more info, email kelley.aasr@gmail.com

2/22/2017 Sadie is a very sad girl who is desperate for a home. She was pulled from a high kill shelter, where she came in as a stray. She was very pregnant and very sweet. We found a foster home located near the shelter (in Louisiana) who picked her up and took her to their house. Soon after that she had 9 beautiful puppies. Sadie was such a loving and devoted mama! We don't know why but sadly, her puppies died one by one. Every day one or two more died. No one could figure out why but it is thought that Sadie suffered some trauma while pregnant, in addition to being malnourished, which probably was a contributing factor. Sadie had been doing fine with the other dogs in the foster home. Until her last puppy died. It's as if something in her mind snapped. She became very aggressive to other dogs at that point and has been that way since then. We have contemplated putting her to sleep due to her dog aggression but I just can't do that without giving her a chance. She is good with people. She is pretty independent but likes attention and affection. She could use some training to learn not to jump up on people to get their attention. Sadie deserves a chance at a good life. She has never had it good before, I am sure. She loves - I mean LOVES - car rides. She does have some separation anxiety but has successfully overcome that while being in rescue. Sadie needs a home who will understand her need to be the only dog. She will not be a candidate for dog parks or visits with other dogs. We believe Sadie is about 4 years old. She has been spayed and is positive for heartworms but has been on the slow kill treatment method. She is located in Arkansas and will be transported to the northeast once adopted.
